Welcome to the Liberty Ranch website! Feel free to look around, but first, scroll down to read a little bit about our outfit's history.
Liberty Ranch was initially founded in 1976 by Ralph Comeau and family. Early goals were to produce cattle that fit well into the Post Rock country of southern Rooks County, KS. Knowing this region between the Saline River Valley and Paradise Creek of western North Central Kansas as some of the best cow country in the world, the Comeau Family’s intent was to expand into a functional first class outfit.
LR introduced their first Limousin females in the spring of 1982. LR was attracted to the Limousin breed initially for their natural thickness, hardiness and durability in those early years. To date there are still females in production 16-18 years old on the ranch. In the early 90’s Liberty Ranch added their first Red Angus females from the Laflin family. These females were the foundation to the F1 base that would expand the commercial cowherd at LR. Later in the 90’s, The Ranch purchased a handful of Red Angus cows from RX Cattle Company as well. Outside a few small packages of female purchases almost all Liberty Ranch females have been bred and born on the ranch.
In Dec 1998 LR hosted their first annual production sale. The shift from private treaty sales was made primarily for our customers’ convenience and to give them equal opportunity to purchase genetics from the ranch. Liberty Ranch continues to host its annual production sale in early February selling over 100 Limousin and Lim-Flex bulls coupled with bred heifers and 10-15 head of ranch broke Quarter Horses. LR has always been focused on producing a product that will meet and exceed the expectations of our loyal commercial customers.
In addition to numerous sales, Liberty Ranch continues to host several educational events and seminars as part our commitment to our customer base in the beef industry. Events have ranged from commercial cow-calf production and profitability to low-stress livestock handling. LR will continue to host events in the future for our fellow cattlemen, valued customers, and youth in agriculture.
The Roger Comeau family and the Liberty Ranch staff is committed to your future success. If at any time we can be of service to you feel free to call or, as always, come by and spend a day with us. As we all move forward into the new paradigms within the beef industry feel confident that LR is there working to provide you with genetics and services to move your program ahead. Visitors are always welcome.
